Going Hardcore
After a week of not being as active as I wanted, this sprint was quite the opposite. Along with my Core and Discipline reviews, my hours for this week were particularly. That was probably due to some poor management on my part. On the bright side, I was the happiest I've been with my work since we started working on this game.
My Work This Week
Like I said, this week was a lot heavier on work. I was in charge of concepting 2 new systems, along with my usual QA duties. The first system was an idea I had about flipping the coin into the air; the coin flips and then proceeds to fly through various walls with holes cut out of them. The challenge of the system will be for the player to switch between coins mid-air in order to travel through different-sized holes.
The second system was the concepting of the vending machine puzzle that I created a few weeks ago. After more discussions, the team decided to fully commit to having the vending machine as our first world, so the puzzles would be switching gears. In the system I came up with, there's a screen and two buttons. The screen has a snack location displayed on it, and the buttons allow the player to switch between the columns and rows. Once they have a snack selected, they will enter a coin slot to pay for the snack and move it out of the way of their path.
This system definitely got me the most excited that I've been for our game, and I can't wait to keep going.
QA Feedback
QA was a bit crazy this week; mainly because more issues kept popping up with the build, and I had to keep rebuilding during QA. It was definitely stressful, but once it finally came together, things went pretty well. This was the first time we tested the coin slot at QA along with a new system that Connor built; an electrical station that uses the penny to conduct electricity and activate objects. Both of the systems got some pretty good feedback, but there are still some issues that need to be fixed. We also had some recurring issues that came up, but those should be an easy fix coming up.
Next Sprint
Now that I've got the vending machine system put together, the big task is going to be the new level design. Like the previous design, I want there to be 3 puzzles, along with some sections that will be using the other systems that we've put together. Aside from the level, I got some really good feedback on the documentation that I've done, and I think I need to make some serious changes to it. Overall, it's another week of excitement, and I'm really looking forward to what comes at the end of the week.
